Sam Bulmer

redcurve design

I have been enthusiastically redesigning houses since I was a child, and professionally since 2005. After first gaining valuable project management experience working in marketing communications, I was lucky enough to be able to convert a passion into a career, training in Interior Design at Chelsea Art College in London before going on to set up Redcurve Design. In addition to my professional work, since moving to the beautiful New Forest in 2013 I have had the chance to develop a great local trade network, as well as honing my own practical skills renovating Marlpool House, our architecturally eclectic and structurally challenging home, which you may notice among the featured projects.

"the spaces we live in have a huge impact on how we feel, behave & interact with those who share them with us"

If you are considering using Redcurve Design, it probably means that you like the style of previous work that I have done - and that's important. Even more important however is that, if you work with me, your home will be meticulously designed to meet your individual needs, to bring out the best in your property and above all to reflect the personalities and lifestyle of those who live there.

HOW IT WORKS

The work that I undertake varies from design consultations, through single room projects, to full design and management of whole house and garden renovations. Where the existing building envelope is to be retained I can carry out all aspects of the design, working in conjunction with an engineer when changes are to be made to load bearing structures. On new builds or extensions I often work alongside architects from the beginning of the process to ensure that all implications of the interior and garden design on the exterior appearance of the building are considered before a planning application is submitted.

Projects begin with a free no-obligation meeting to discuss your requirements, after which I will come back with a proposal for how I can help you and a clear step by step quotation. If you decide to proceed, the design process starts with getting to know you & your property and agreeing a brief that combines practical considerations with your aspirations for the work. I then go on to look at the high level space planning - especially dealing with any tricky layout issues - and to develop a visual look and feel, combining photographs and physical samples which will act as a reference point through out the entire project. This is followed by the detailed design work and technical drawings. If required I can go on to source all the required fixtures, fittings & furnishings and to arrange delivery and installation of these. For local work I also offer a full project management service and am happy to make trade recommendations or to work with your own contractors.
